Maori Myth

Taranga a goddess was Maui mother. Cutting the top knot off her hair she used this to send Maui far far away into the ocean. Maui did not sink, before he was tossed into sea his Mother Taranga, called out to Tangaroa the god of the sea to take her son. He was still alive. Boring on the back of Tangaroa's wave children. At all time Maui was shaded by the sun and cooled by the wind Tawhiri. The swell of the ocean took him to a seaside Kainga. Standing on the shoreside was a man, this man was Maui’s Uncle yet he did not know this he scattered the birds and predator away from the bundle of hair and looked after him like Maui was his son. Over the years Tama-Nui-Te-Rangi taught him valuable knowledge. Tama also taught Maui about magic. After a while Maui learnt how to turn into a Wood Pigeon. Some days maui would fly down to where the men were lazily working on the kumara field and chant a working chant. The men automatically started working faster and have the whole field done in a matter of a couple hours. Things began to bother Maui the biggest bother was that he noticed that all of the kids had moms where was his. After a discussion with his Uncle Maui decided that it would be his quest to find his mother. After months of trying to.find his mother he traveled many miles and one night he did. Creeping closer to the fire Maui notice that their was a lady greeting her sons. That woman was Maui's mother. One by one the lady gave her sons a hongi. He stood behind the brothers he had never seen before and waited until it was his turn “Who are you” Maui's Mother asked. “I am Maui-Potiki your last born.” Maui explained what had happened over his life and his Mother's eyes filled with happy tears. This was indeed Maui's Mother.
